No, it’s not a legal requirement to have your fire alarm system monitored. This being said, fire detection and alarm systems are recommended service by a competent provider is carried out every 6 months to comply with BS 5839-1 (the British Standard for fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings in non-domestic premises). As an employer, it’s a legal requirement to ensure you have an “appropriate” fire detection system present. If this system is not being tested, or the employer is aware of a fault, this system may no longer be considered “appropriate” as your staff are being put at risk.

The cost involved with security system monitoring can vary depending on a range of factors.
