Improving Security and Reducing costs at Distribution Centres
Whether you are a third party logistics service provider or an own account operator, knowing that your premises are protected 24/7 is essential.
When it comes to being 100% certain that your distribution centre is protected, without the issues surrounding manned security, and in the most cost effective manner, our approach is to use a combination of security equipment and latest technologies to provide a robust solution.
Company Requirement
A logistics company storing high value items at its distribution centre, were using manned security and wanted to reduce the costs and improve overall site security. The site utilised CCTV, access control and intruder alarms.
Our Process
We reviewed the site, undertook a complete security audit, we understood the site dynamics, throughput, operating times, access requirements etc and assessed the effectiveness of the current security arrangements.
Resulting Requirements
Inadequate protection of the perimeters fence, left the site vulnerable to intruders.
The Solution
We designed the solution to have beams located all around the perimeter fence line. The beams would be activated if broken, resulting in alerting the ARC Alarm Receiving Centre who would then log in into the CCTV system and view the areas that had been activated, searching the site with pan, tilt and zoom cameras.
We installed a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) with external Public Address Speakers, which allowed the Alarm Receiving Centre to inform the intruder that they had notified the police who were on route, and that they were being filmed. We also installed improved external lighting.
Return On Investment
The capital expenditure on the project was £45,000 with ongoing costs of £5,000 per annum, this resulted in a net saving of £93,000 per year to the client.
